The webpage “DTG3 ROV” from Deep Trekker (n.d.) introduces its underwater ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicles) “that observes the depths of large bodies of water by operators from shore”. *According to Deep Trekker, the DTG3 ROV is a mini observation-class underwater ROV built to deploy rapidly and quickly visual inspections in underwater environments. The DT3G is the most portable ROV, which provides an exceptional 4K camera in a durable yet lightweight vehicle (Deep Trekker, n.d.). Deep Trekker states on its webpage that the DT3G could be deployed within 30 seconds and has a battery life of up to eight hours. It is also equipped with three thrusters and a patented pitch system, that allows for flexible operations and descent capabilities (Deep Trekker, n.d.). The webpage also highlights DTG3’s 270-degree rotating camera that offers a massive range of views for ship hulls, sea floors, and everything in between, without the need to maneuver the thrusters. According to Deep Trekker, DTG3 ROV has a depth rating of 200m and comes along with several add-ons such as the grabber, laser scaler, USBL positioning, thickness gauge, environmental sensors, and extended tether. The Revolution ROV has 6 thrusters and a revolving camera head, which allows it to have better lateral movement and maximum control, along with the ability to identify targets on the seafloor effectively. This highlights that the Revolution Rov is the best among the Rov’s in Deep Trekker’s lineup.
The Revolution ROV surpasses the other ROVs due to the power and design of its 6 thrusters. “There are many types of thrusters, such as general, ducted, channel, water jet, flat, magnetic fluid, and vector thrusters” (Zhou,B., & Zhao,M., 2020, p.1). “The current research of thrust distribution in ROV assumes that the hydrodynamic performance of the thruster is known, and the flow field is uniform” (Zhou,B., & Zhao,M., 2020, p.1). According to Deep trekker, The DTG3 uses the 3-thruster design, which enables the operator to manipulate the pitch or yaw for vertical and lateral movements. Unless a precision thruster is added to the DTG3, the operator doesn’t need use the pitch function and can change depths without the need to rotate the ROV, thus making it ideal for the trickiest of observation and inspection needs (Deep Trekker, n.d.). “In comparison to the Revolution ROV’s 6-thruster design that provides unmatched control in harsh underwater conditions along with its 305m depth rating, makes it ideal for complex deep ocean missions” (Deep Trekker, n.d.). “Out of the 6 thrusters in Revolution ROV, two of them are vertically mounted for precise vertical movements and depth holding and the remaining four are mounted horizontally and in a vectored configuration to allow for lateral movements” (Deep Trekker, n.d.). “A large bollard pull thrust is required in an ROV, so the ducted propellers are used in the vector layout propulsion system for greater thrust” (Zhou,B., & Zhao,M., 2020, p.1). This indicates that the vectored configuration of the Revolution ROV is more efficient and provides greater thrust compared to the 4-thruster design of the DTG3 ROV.
The Revolution ROV’s revolving head camera has better features and functionality compared to its counterparts. “The DTG3 ROV has a full HD internal camera that comes with a zero-latency viewing on its handheld controller along with a 270-degree rotating field of view which could then switch to photo mode to snap photos up to 8 megapixels” (Deep Trekker, n.d.). “Whereas the Revolution ROV consists of 260-degree revolving head camera at the front of the vehicle” (Deep Trekker, n.d.). The revolving head camera has ultra-high definition which allows the user to see the view from its controller (Deep Trekker, n.d.).” In addition to this, the revolving head camera comes with powerful LED lights and a laser scaler, which helps the user identify the hull of a ship or targets on the seafloor” (Deep Trekker, n.d.). This illustrates how the revolving camera has higher resolution than HD camera of DTG3, which allows to view targets on seabed more in depth, making it to be more effective than the HD camera of the DTG3.
The DTG3 is the ultimate ROV in portability and is a cost-effective alternative to the Pivot or the Revolution ROV (Deep Trekker, n.d.). The DTG3 ROV also has higher battery life compared to the other ROVs in the Deep Trekker line up (Deep Trekker, n.d.). These points highlight that the DTG3 stands above the Revolution ROV in certain aspects.
However, the Revolution ROV is the most stable and powerful ROV in the Deep Trekker lineup, due to its ability to survive harsh underwater conditions and accomplish complex missions. The Revolution ROV has features such as its 6 thrusters and revolving camera head that gives it an edge compared to its other counterparts. *
